Salinas as a Place
Salinas is located in the central to northern coastal area of California and is in the heart of the Salinas Valley, nicknamed "The Salad Bowl of the World". Salinas is an agricultural based city with rolling fields and cool but moderate climate. Salinas is a large producer of the world's lettuce and strawberries. It is also the hometown of famed author John Steinbeck and Naval Officer Everett Alvarez Jr.

STEM in Salinas
Compared to other California regions such as the Silicon Valley or Palo Alto, Salinas is relatively small and underfunded in the STEM department. The most common developments of STEM stem—pun intended—from agricultural developments. As such, the goal of STEEL Boot Robotics has been well received by students: to incite a deep passion for STEM in the local community and its youth.
